Welcome to my South American Epic Adventure!

 

I LOVE to travel! As much as I possibly can. I want to see everything, do everything and eat everything. You can see some of my adventures in my other blogs (UK, Antarctica & Europe, Africa, Europe) and this will be my new place to post about my adventures. 


My next trip is South America and I cannot wait! This is another one of my Covid-ruined trips, so this trip is 3 years overdue! We have 54 days of school holidays this summer, and I'm away for every single one of them! The plan is to hit 7 countries (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia & Chile) and tick off most of my South American bucket list! I may have the chance to add a sneaky side trip to Paraguay for a couple of hours too.


I am doing all the typical tourist things (Christ the Redeemer, Iguazu Falls, Machu Picchu etc) but I am also doing some more unique activities! For example, sleeping in a capsule stuck on the side of a cliff that you need to zipline & rock climb up to, scenic fights and bike riding on one of the world's most dangerous roads in Bolivia! I spoke to one of my year 12 students about my trip and showed him the capsules on the cliff and he completely freaked out and asked me if I was insane. Yes, yes I am!


I'm also doing a slightly odd route, due to chasing the new moon so I can do some astrophotography. The Atacama Desert in Chile is one of the best locations on the entire planet for stargazing & astrophotography, due to its ultra dark and cloudless skies. This will be the perfect opportunity to get some incredible Milky Way photos! Maybe even a galaxy, if I'm lucky.

I think I will end up posting a blog per country. I'm flying out of London Heathrow in a few days, with my first stop being Brazil.

  Hello hello and welcome to sunny Croatia! A few weeks ago I decided I really wanted to get away in the October half term and luck was on my side. I managed to find return flights from London to Dubrovnik for £75 and when I searched accommodation for the dates, Booking.com was giving me a 50% discount on the hostel I was looking at. That's return flights & 4 nights accommodation for just £140. So naturally, I booked it on the spot. I haven't been to Croatia before, and Dubrovnik is close to Bosnia and Herzegovina & Montenegro so I could do 3 countries!   Day 1 London to Dubrovnik I really wasn’t sure how early to get to Stansted Airport (no checked luggage) so I decided to arrive 2.5hrs early.   It’s easy but expensive to get to this airport. New Zealand part 2 & a glimpse of China!

  Welcome to part 2 of my New Zealand and China adventure!   Day 10 Arrowtown I tried to have another sleep in today, but one of the guys in my dorm was up early to go skiing, and left the bathroom light on while he got ready, which has an in-built fan. I went and grabbed breakfast, then came back to my room and had breakfast in bed. I got an apple crumble porridge and my usual coffee. In the coffee shop, the girl was the same as the one from the other day, and she told me she decided to book some ski lessons after our conversation the other day. The guy in there also told me that he thought there were a lot of speeding skiers/boarders last night, far more than normal, and he is an experienced skier. I’m glad it was just me feeling that!   Then I had to pack. I sorted out my things and got my suitcases to exactly 23kg. Awe inspiring New Zealand

  Welcome to New Zealand, one of the most beautiful countries on the planet.   This summer holidays, I decided I wanted to go skiing in New Zealand, to get some more experience. Since I was going to be close to home, I figured I should probably cross the ditch and visit some friends & family back home. Also, I miss home, especially the food.   At the beginning of July, I flew to Sydney and spent the next two weeks with my friend Belinda and her family. It has been 3.5yrs since we last saw each other so it was really great to see them. After Sydney, I flew to Melbourne and stayed at my mums for the next 10 days. We took a trip to Albury to visit my nana, which was great, and I got to see my teacher friends, and family members.   I had a huge list of food I wanted to buy to bring back to the UK as well.
