Over the last 10 days we have had such random weather. It truly is like Melbourne, just can't make its mind up!
Last Tuesday the agency I work for arranged for an interview & trial lesson at the private school for a position for next term. Fortunately for me, the weather was absolutely stunning! 24 degrees, blue skies, light breeze. The school is right next to the River Thames and in an old building. The science lab is at the top of a tower on the 3rd floor with bay windows looking over the river.
After the interview & lesson, I headed home to change into some more weather appropriate clothes & headed off to Hyde Park. This was my first trip to Hyde Park and the first thing I saw was a horse track for people to take their horses for a walk in the park. Awesome!
Next up was the thousands of locals basking in the sunshine. Walking around the lake to the cafe for pizza I joined what felt like half of London in the big open space to sit and enjoy the sunshine. I have quite literally never seen so many half naked people outside of a beach environment. Most of the guys had their tops off and most of the girls were in crop tops and tiny shorts or super ripped jeans. There were loads of people roller skating, bike riding, walking dogs and just walking.
The park is great and if you venture to the west you end up in Kensington Gardens. This park was equally as busy and pretty. I even got to see Kensington Palace.
Lastly, to continue enjoying the sunshine, I headed up to Regents Park. This park is huge and has numerous different gardens within it. There is also a cherry blossom walk which is was very popular with people trying to get the perfect Insta pic.
It was an amazing day.
Unfortunately, the weather changed and went back to a much cooler 18 degrees on Wednesday, which was also the last day of school. Over Easter we had a mixture of weather, patchy clouds, a bit of sunshine, lots of wind and on Easter Monday we had snow! Just small little flurries and they didn't sit on the ground but it was still snow!
Today is Tuesday and I decided to head down to Kew Botanical Gardens and Richmond. One of my favourite shows at home was Vet on the Hill. It is a show about an Aussie vet, Dr Scott Miller, who moved to London to open a vet clinic. I took the train to Richmond and then walked off to find his clinic. He wasn't in the front of the clinic when I got there but I found it still!
After that I headed to the Kew Botanical Gardens. They have timed entry tickets so I had to wait a while but eventually got in. By this stage, the sunshine was absolutely amazing but the wind was getting colder. Due to covid restrictions, all the inside gardens are closed so we can only epxlore the outside gardens. Lucky there is so much to see! There were so many amazing flowers. Ones I haven't seen before, ones that look like pineapples and lots of cherry blossoms and magnolias.
There were also lots of geese near the lakes and one nipped my finger trying to get my muffin! Cute but definitely noisy.
I explored most of the gardens but eventually the wind became icy and it was time to go home. I walked 15.5km today so I have definitely earned my rest tonight!
On Monday we are allowed to do overnight stays in England so I have booked a car to road trip around the country. Stay tuned for my next update!
Happy Easter & enjoy the school holidays (Aus and UK have the same holidays this time!).
